digibone

LinealDigibone is an animistic world of live electronics in which the viscoelastic qualities of the slide trombone invoke shifting digital sprites and topographies. Technically, digibone is a performance environment for live processing and sampling of structured improvisations on the trombone, sometimes alongside algorithmically generated compositions.

For software I use both MAX/MSP and Ableton Live, and in addition to the trombone the other hardware includes a midi controller, expression pedal and a custom-hacked practice mute with a microphone inside. My setup allows me to alternate between an open mic, in which case the audience hears both the acoustic and processed sounds, and the practice mute, which isolates the electronics and turns the trombone into a kind of digital audio controller. I've been practicing and performing with these tools since 2002, and am currently finishing up a solo album.
